Dalton Nets 1,000th Point, but Lady Cats Fall at Glenville State

Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) poured in a career-high 36 points to become the 33rd Lady Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau, but Glenville State (WV) University used a 16-4 run to close out the first half and begin the second half to deal Pitt-Johnstown a 111-96 road loss on Saturday. The Lady Cats, who also got 33 points from Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.), have dropped four straight and slipped to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the WVIAC.
Dalton, who needed 34 points to reach the milestone, broke her previous career-high of 34 points by scoring 36 against the Lady Pioneers.
A basket by Aden and a three-pointer by Dalton put the Lady Cats up 8-7 three-minutes into the game, but Glenville State outscored Pitt-Johnstown 14-3 over the next four minutes to build a 21-11 lead on a Miranda Reed jumper in the paint with just over 11 minutes left in the first half.
The Lady Cats came back and scored the next 10 points to tie it at 21 on Aden's basket. The Lady Pioneers extended the lead back to five at 31-26, before Anaya Stephenson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) knotted the score at 36 with a bucket at the 3:30 mark.
Three of Dalton's 18 first half points made it 42-41, but Glenville State closed out the first half on a 13-0 run, capped by an Autumn Davis three-pointer, to push the led to 45-41 at the half.
Glenville State extended the run to 16-4 and build the lead to 61-45 early in the second half. Pitt-Johnstown cut the deficit to nine on three occasions, the last on a basket in the paint by Stephenson midway through the half to make it 72-63.
However, the Lady Pioneers quickly made it an 18-point advantage at 83-65 with an 11-2 run. Aden scored the next 11 points for the Lady Cats to make it 88-77 with six minutes to play.
Pitt-Johnstown then cut it to 91-83 on a back-to-back lay-ups from Stephenson and Aden with under five minutes to play, but it never got any closer and the Lady Pioneers went on to the 15-point victory.
Dalton led all scorers with 36 points, including five three-pointers, and five rebounds. Aden had 33 points and seven rebounds, while Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD) scored 11 points. Stephenson finished career-highs of 10 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
Aden currently stands in 16th-place on the Lady Cats All-Time Scoring List with 1,225 points and 26th on the all-time rebounding list with 456 rebounds, while Dalton is tied for 32nd on the scoring list 30th on the all-time rebounding list with 401.
Pitt-Johnstown, which out-rebounded Glenville State 58-52, shot 44% (38-86) from the field with six three-pointer. The Lady Pioneers shot 45% (44-96) from the floor and hit 16 three-pointers.
Tenish Wilson and Beth Deren each scored 17 points to pace the Lady Pioneers, who improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats return home after five straight road games to host a non-conference game against Slippery Rock University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and a WVIAC game against the University of Charleston (WV) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center.
