Aden Nets 1,000th Point as Lady Cats Pummel Bluefield State

Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored 22 points to become the Lady Cats 32nd 1,000-point scorer on her way to leading Pitt-Johnstown to a lopsided 76-35 victory over Bluefield State (WV) College, Saturday evening in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats made it two straight wins and improved to 11-9 overall and 8-7 in the WVIAC.
Aden, a junior guard and graduate of Lakeview High School in Sandy Lake, Pa., needed 22 points to reach 1,000 points. Aden, scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the second half, including a lay-up with 6:54 remaining in the game to reach the milestone and put the Lady Cats up 60-28.
Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) knocked down three of her 10 first half points to put Pitt-Johnstown up 7-2 less than five minutes into the game. The Lady Blues battled back to take a 14-12 lead on Charlene Diggs' lay-up at 11:49, but the Lady Cats began to pull away.
Pitt-Johnstown outscored Bluefield State 20-8 the rest of the first half. A Kelly Goode (Pleasant Plain, OH) basket with 7:19 remaining put the Lady Cats up for good at 20-18. The Lady Cats increased it to 28-20 on Qiuana Brown's (Monroeville, Pa.) lay-up 4:10 later, before back-to-back buckets by Aden closed out the half and gave Pitt-Johnstown a 32-20 lead.
The Lady Cats use the start of the second half to put Bluefield State away. Pitt-Johnstown scored the first 11 straight points, including seven from Aden, over the first four minutes to build the lead to 43-20.
Pitt-Johnstown pushed the lead out to 31 points at 11:26 on a another basket from Aden. The Lady Cats built their largest lead of the night at 76-32 on Elisa Schober's (Washington, Pa.) three-pointer with under a minute to play, before going on to the 41-point win.
The Lady Cats dominated the boards,by out rebounding the Lady Blues 48-28, including holding a 24-2 advantage on the offensive glass. Pitt-Johnstown also forced 30 turnovers, while committing just nine. Pitt-Johnstown ended the evening shooting 41.6% from the field with seven three-pointers. Bluefield State shot 38.1% and 3-11 from behind the three-point line. The Lady Blues didn't attempt a free-throw. The Lady Cats were 5-13 from the charity stripe.
Aden led all scorers with with 22 points on 10-16 shooting from the floor and 2-4 from the free-throw line. Aden also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists. Dalton scored 10 points and Monae Baker (Bushkill, Pa.) collected 10 points and seven rebounds. Schober had seven points, and Goode finished with seven points, a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.
Laken Coburn paced Bluefield State with 14 points. Kelly Pawlowski chipped in eight points and seven rebounds for the Lady Blues, who fell to 1-19 overall and 1-14 in the WVIAC.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to West Liberty (WV) University on Thursday, before hosting Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Saturday for a doubleheader on Breast Cancer Awareness Night and a tribute to the late Jody Billingsley. The Lady Cats will also host Ohio Valley (WV) University on Monday, February 15. The Lady Cats will tip-off both home doubleheaders at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
