Lady Cats Score, 69-59, Win Over Bluefield State

Freshman Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the first half to lead four Lady Cats who scored in double figures in a, 69-59, victory over Bluefield State (WV) College, Thursday evening in the Sports Center. With the win, Head Coach Sasha Palmer's team improved to 5-10 overall and 4-4 in the WVIAC.
Aden's 14 first half points helped Pitt Johnstown erase a 14-11 deficit with 10:31 to play and spark a 16-5 run to carry the Lady Cats to a, 27-19, halftime lead. Pitt Johnstown extended the lead to 41-25 with 14:44 to play, before going on to the 10-point win.
Aden wrapped-up the night shooting 8-12 from the field and 5-6 from the free-three line. Aden also pulled down six rebounds and made three steals, while Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) added 15 points, a team-high eight rebounds and six assists. Coach Palmer also got 11 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals from Chrissy Forster (Lewisberry, Pa.), and 10 points and four rebounds from Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.). Senior forward Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.) chipped in seven points and six rebounds in the victory.
Pitt Johnstown shot 40.6% (26-64) from the field, made seven three-pointers and hit 10 of its 14 free-throws, while holding the Lady Blues to 38.7 (24-64) shooting from the field. Bluefield State also shot 6-12 (50.0%) from three-point range and 5-9 (55.6%) from the free-throw line. The Lady Cats out rebounded the Lady Blues, 42-38.
Sasha Simmons scored a team-high 15 points and Charise Watts had 14 points and nine rebounds. Eva Grose collected 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for Bluefield State, which dropped to 5-11 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
The Lady Cats continue a three-game home stand against Concord (WV) University on Saturday as part of a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats beginning at 2:00 p.m. Saturday is also "Think Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness Day. All Fans are encouraged to join the coaches, players and staff in wearing pink. All fans wearing pink will be admitted free of charge to the doubleheader. A $2.00 donation to the Joyce Murtha Breast Cancer Center at Windber Medical Center would be very much appreciated.
