Women's Basketball Suffers, 69-57, Home Loss to Concord

Sophomore guard Chrissy Forster (Lewisberry, Pa.) scored 14 points to lead three Lady Cats who scored in double figures, but Pitt Johnstown was not able to erase a 14-point halftime deficit and suffered a, 69-57, loss to Concord (WV) University on Saturday's "Think Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness Day in the Sports Center. With the loss, the Lady Cats dropped to 5-11 overall and 4-5 in the WVIAC.
Concord broke open a, 24-17, gave with a 9-2 run over the final 5:38 of the first half to take a 33-19 halftime lead. The Lady Lions increased their lead to, 60-34, with 8:51 to play, before the Lady Cats battled back to cut the deficit to 11 points with 2:19 to play. However, that was as close as the Lady Cats would get, before suffering the 12-point loss.
Forster scored 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out six assists and made three steals to lead Pitt Johnstown. Freshman Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored 13 points, collected four assists and four steals, while fellow freshman Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points on 6-11 shooting from the field. Senior forward Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.) added nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds in a losing cause for the Lady Cats.
The Lady Cats were unable to overcome just 40.4% (21-52) shooting from the field and 18.8% (3-16) from three-point range. Concord finished the day shooting 50.0% (29-58) from the field, 23.1% (3-13) from behind the three-point line and 72.7% (8-11) from the free-throw line. Pitt Johnstown, which leads NCAA Division II in free-throw percentage, made 12 of its 15 free-throws, but were out rebounded, 36-30, for the game.
Samm Nester's game-high 18 points led the way for Concord. Sierra Brown scored 10 points, and Amber Showalter chipped in nine points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Lady Lions, who improved to 12-4 overall and 8-2 in conference play.
The Lady Cats finish a three-game home stand against Salem International (WV) as part of a doubleheader with the Mountain Cats, Monday night in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
