Cale's Late Free Throws Lead Lady Cats to Win Over Salem International

Lindsay Cale (Humelstown, Pa.) scored 24 points and made a key free-throw with :05 left on the clock to help the Lady Cat basketball team secure a, 74-73, victory over visiting Salem International (WV) University, Monday evening in the Sports Center. Head Coach Sasha Palmer's team improved 6-11 overall and 5-5 in WVIAC play.
Pitt Johnstown climbed out to a, 30-14, lead with 4:38 to play in the first half, before Salem International went on a 13-1 run to close out the half and cut the deficit to, 31-27. The Lady Tigers battled all the way back to take a, 49-48, lead with 9:24 to play. Neither team was able to build a lead larger than three points the rest of the way. With the score tied, 73-73, Cale stole an in-bounds pass and was fouled with :05 left. Cale made one of her two free-throws and the Lady Cats were able to hold on for the tight one-point win.
Cale's 24 points on 10-16 shooting from the field, 1-2 from three-point range and 3-4 from the free-throw line led four Lady Cats who scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Chrissy Forster (Lewisberry, Pa.) added 16 points, four rebounds, six assists and four steals, while Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) collected 12 points, including a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Pitt Johnstown got the job done from the free-throw line, hitting 22 of it 24 attempts. The Lady Cats also shot 41.8% (23-55) from the field and 37.5% (6-16) from behind the three-point line. Pitt Johnstown held the Lady Tigers to just 37.7% (23-61) shooting for the game. Salem International went 18-24 from the free-throw line in the loss.
Jeannie Saunders poured in a game-high 27 points. Nikole Ramos had 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds, and Melissa Anger chipped in 11 points for the Lady Tigers, who fell to 4-13 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
The Lady Cats travel to Davis & Elkins (WV) College on Thursday and to Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Saturday for a pair of league games, before returning home to host Glenville State (WV) College on Monday as part of a doubleheader with the Mountain Cats in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats will tip-off on Monday at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
