Lady Cats Earn, 59-52, Win at Davis & Elkins

Head Coach Sasha Palmer's Lady Cat basketball team battled back from a 12-point first half deficit and made it two straight wins to improve to 7-11 overall and 6-5 in the WVIAC with a, 59-52, win at Davis & Elkins (WV) College, Thursday evening. Lindsay Cale's (Hummelstown, Pa.) game-high 18 points led the way for Pitt Johnstown.
The Lady Cats fell behind, 23-11, before going on a 16-4 run to take a slim, 27-26 hafltime lead. Davis & Elkins came out in the second half and built a, 43-34 lead with 12:27 to play, but Pitt Johnstown reclaimed a four-point lead and went on to hold off the Senators for a seven-point win.
Cale shot 6-14 from the field and 6-8 from the free-throw line to lead the Lady Cats. Cale also grabbed five rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and blocked three shots, while sophomore guard Chrissy Forster (Lewisberry, Pa.) added 10 points, five rebounds and four steals. Coach Palmer also got eight points and six rebounds apiece from Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.) and Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.), and eight points and a team-high eight rebounds from Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) in the win.
Pitt Johnstown was able to overcome just 37.9% (22-58) shooting from the field and 29.4% (5-17) shooting from behind the three-point line. The Lady Cats, who lead NCAA Division II in free-throw percentage, also struggled from the line, hitting just 10 of their 21 attempts. Davis & Elkins finished the night shooting 41.2% (21-51) from the field, 31.3% (5-16) from three-point range and 71.4% (5-7) from the free-throw line. Pitt Johnstown also out rebounded the Senators, 42-37, and held a, 21-11, advantage on the offensive end.
Natasha Pupic scored 11 points and Courtney Pawlak added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the Senators, who fell to 6-11 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
The Lady Cats travel to Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Saturday for a league game, before returning home to host Glenville State (WV) College on Monday as part of a doubleheader with the Mountain Cats in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats will tip-off on Monday at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
