Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) and Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) combined to score 14 of the first 16 Lady Cat points to put Pitt-Johnstown up by two seven minutes into the game.
West Virginia State then used a 14-5 run over the next 5:39, capped by Melissa Ford's lay-up, to give the Yellow Jackets a 28-21 lead with just over seven minutes left in the first half.
The Lady Cats battled back to cut it to 28-27 on Rachel Johnson's (Palmyra, Pa.) basket at the five-minute mark, but West Virginia State responded and took its largest lead of the half at 35-27 on a pair of Chelsey Davis free-throws at 3:47.
The Yellow Jackets held the lead and went into the halftime break up, 41-33.
Kayla Loughner's (Brinklow, MD) bucket two minutes into the second half cut the Lady Cat deficit to 43-38, but West Virginia State scored the next six to build the lead to 49-38 at 16:27.
Dalton's fastbreak lay-up with 13:09 to play cut it to 51-44. However, Davis' basket at 7:42 ended an 11-2 Yellow Jacket run to build the lead to 62-46.
Pitt-Johnstown pulled to within eight on another Dalton basket with 1:43 remaining, but it never got any closer and West Virginia State went on to the 14-point win.
