Lady Cats Drop Regular Season Finale at Shepherd

Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) and Kelly Goode (Pleasant Plain, OH) scored 21 points apiece, but Shepherd (WV) University broke open a four-point halftime lead and built a 22-point second half advantage en route to defeating the Lady Cats, 88-81, Saturday afternoon in Shepherdstown, WV to wrap-up the 2009-10 regular season. Pitt-Johnstown, which secured the No.-9 seed for the WVIAC Tournament, fell to 15-12 overall and 12-10 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats open the WVIAC Tournament at No.-8 seeded Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The winner advances to Wednesday's WVIAC Quarterfinals at the Civic Center in Charleston, WV. Pitt-Johnstown and Wheeling Jesuit split a pair of regular season games this season.
Camille Wilmer's basket 8:34 into the game gave Shepherd a 12-9 lead, but Pitt-Johnstown answered to go up 13-12 on Sara Trimarco's (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) lay-up and free-throw two possessions later.
However, Pitt-Johnstown never led again. The Lady Rams used a 22-11 run over the next eight minutes to build a 34-23 advantage on two free-throws from Emily Daniel at 3:57.
The Lady Cats pulled to within four at 40-36 on Aden's bucket as time expired in the first half.
It was all Lady Rams after the break. Shepherd outscored Pitt-Johnstown 25-7 over the first nine minutes of the second to extend the lead to 22 at 65-43 on Wilmer's basket in the paint.
The Lady Rams held at least an 18-point lead until the final 1:13 of the game. Goode hit three three-pointers in the final minute for the Lady Cats to set the final score at 88-81.
Aden and Goode each scored 21 points to lead all scorers. Goode was also 5-6 from three-point range, while Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) added 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Trimarco finished with eight points, and Stacy Goode (Pleasant Plain, OH) collected seven assists.
With her 21 points against Shepherd, Aden remained in 24th-place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,077 points. She is now 37 points away from Carol Mumma (1978-82) for 23rd-place. Aden also ranks 29th on the All-Time Rebounding List with 410, four shy of Janet Hess (1991-95) for 28th-place.
The Lady Cats shot 47% from the field, 8-22 from three-point range and 11-14 from the free-throw line, but were out-rebounded 45-27, including 15-8 on the offensive glass. Shepherd ended the day shooting 52.9%, 4-14 from behind the three-point line and 12-16 from the charity stripe.
Wilmer led five players who scored in double-figures with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Katie Biggs (17 points), Shelby Fayak (16 points), Daniel (15 points) and Saunders (12 points) also scored in double-figures for the Lady Rams, who improved to 15-11 overall and 14-8 in the WVIAC.
