Lady Cats Roll Over Alderson-Broaddus, 70-53

The Lady Cats used a 21-0 run over the final 6:40 of the first half to erase a four-point deficit and build a 19-point halftime lead in a 70-53 WVIAC win at Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College, Monday evening. Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) had game-highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead Pitt-Johnstown, which improved to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats got six early points from Dalton and a three-pointer from Maria Montini (Irwin, Pa.) nine minutes into the game to give Pitt-Johnstown a 14-8 lead.
Alderson-Broaddus clawed back with a 14-4 run to go up 22-18 on back-to-back three-pointers from Ashley Prince with 6:40 left, but it was all Pitt-Johnstown the rest of the half.
The Lady Cats outscored the Battlers 21-0 over the final 6:40 to build a 39-22 halftime lead. Kayla Loughner's (Brinklow, MD) lay-up a minute later knotted the score at 22. Four minutes later, two of Dalton's 14 first half points pushed the lead into double-digits, before Loughner (Brinklow, MD) connected on a pair of free-throws with 44 seconds left, and a lay-up with 18 seconds remaining to extend the lead to 17 at the break.
Dalton scored early in the second half to extend the run to 23-0, before Brittni Shriver's basket at 17:59 ended a nearly nine-minute Alderson-Broaddus drought to cut the deficit to 41-24.
The Battlers cut the lead to 15, but Dalton's three-pointer at 14:46 gave the Lady Cats a 22-point advantage at 48-22.
The Lady Cats built the lead to as many as 24 points on three occasions. Alderson-Broaddus made a late run to pull within 12 on Hailey Purcell's breakaway lay-up with a minute left, before Pitt-Johnstown went on to the 17-point victory.
Dalton led the Lady Cats with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Loughner had 10 points and four rebounds, and Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) collected eight points and five rebounds. Kelly Goode (Cincinnati, OH) chipped in nine points, while Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) and Montini scored five points apiece.
Aden currently stands in 14th-place on the Lady Cats All-Time Scoring List with 1,309 points and 23rd on the all-time rebounding list with 492 rebounds, while Dalton is 25th on the scoring list with 1,103 points and 27th on the all-time rebounding list with 462.
Pitt-Johnstown, which committed just eight turnovers, shot 40.6% (28-29) from the field, 4-16 from three-point range and 10-13 from the free-throw line. The Battlers finished the night shooting 40.4% (21-53) from the floor, 6-16 from behind the three-point line and 5-7 from the charity Sstripe. Alderson-Broaddus also committed 21 turnovers in the loss.
Amanda Peoples' 11 points and 12 rebounds paced the Battlers, who fell to 1-10 overall and 1-8 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Davis & Elkins (WV) College on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Ohio Valley (WV) Univesity for another conference game on Saturday.
