Lady Cats Defeat D&E For Third Straight Win

The Lady Cats took advantage of two first half runs to build a 21-point halftime lead on their way to defeating WVIAC rival Davis & Elkins (WV) College, 69-50, Monday evening in the Sports Center. Kelly Goode (Cincinnati, OH) scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds to pace Pitt-Johnstown, which made it three straight wins and evened its record at 7-7 overall and 5-5 in the WVIAC.
Davis & Elkins climbed out to a 6-2 lead on Julieanne Buckley's basket 4:13 into the game, but Pitt-Johnstown responded to take control with a pair of big first half runs.
Pitt-Johnstown outscored the Senators 25-10 over the next nine minutes to build an 11-point lead. Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) gave the Lady Cats their first lead of the night at 8-6 1:42 later. Goode extended it to 10 with a bucket at the 9:49 mark, before Maria Montini (Irwin, Pa.) scored in the paint to make it 27-16 with seven minutes left.
The Senators cut it to eight at 29-21 on another Buckley field goal at 4:35, but the Lady Cats used a 13-0 run to close the half. Aden scored to extend the lead to 15 with just under two minutes remaining, and Goode connected on three of her 15 first half points as time expired to give Pitt-Johnstown a 42-21 halftime advantage.
Davis and Elkins scored to open the second half and pull to within 19, but the Lady Cats pushed it out to a 25-point lead on Kayla Loughner's (Brinklow, MD) free-throws 2:40 into second half.
Aden's free-throws gave the Lady Cats their largest lead of the night at 65-38 with 6:38 to play. The Senators got as close as 19 in the final minute, but it was all Pitt-Johnstown.
Goode led all scorers with 19 points on 8-18 shooting, including 3-5 from three-point range. Goode also had seven rebounds, while Aden scored 14 points and dished out a game-high six assists. Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) rounded out the Lady Cats who scored in double-figures with 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Montini tallied seven points, and Rachel Johnson (Palmyra, Pa.) grabbed five rebounds off the bench.
Aden currently stands in 11th-place on the Lady Cats All-Time Scoring List with 1,346 points and 22nd on the all-time rebounding list with 500 rebounds, while Dalton is 24th on the scoring list with 1,136 points and 25th on the all-time rebounding list with 485.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 42.2% (25-59) from the field, 5-16 from three-point range and 14-18 from the free-throw line, while holding the Senators to just 37.5% (18-48) shooting for the game and 3-10 from behind the three-point line. Davis & Elkins was also 11-12 from the free-throw line.
Jorden Lykes scored 11 points and Buckley added nine points to lead the Senators, who suffered their fifth straight loss and dropped to 3-13 overall and 1-9 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host WVIAC doubleheaders with the Mountain Cats against Seton Hill University on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Ohio Valley (WV) University on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.
