Lady Cats Cruise to 77-63 Win at West Virginia State

Freshman Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) collected career-highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead four Lady Cats who scored in double figures in a 77-63 conference win at West Virginia State University on Saturday. With the win, Head Coach Sasha Palmer's Lady Cats snapped a two-game losing skid and improved to 9-13 overall and 8-7 in WVIAC action.
The Lady Cats opened the game with a 10-2 run, but West Virginia State battled back to cut it to 22-21 with 8:10 to play in the first half. Pitt Johnstown answered and outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 18-12 to close out the half and take a 40-33 lead. The Lady Cats came out in the second half and increased the lead to 57-41 at the 12:04 mark. Pitt Johnstown raised that lead to 23 points with 4:54 to play, before holding off a late Lady Jacket run for the 14-point victory.
Dalton shot 5-11 from the field, 1-2 from three-point range and 9-12 from the free-throw line. Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) added 14 points, including 8-8 from the free-throw line, and nine rebounds, and Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) had 14 points and three rebounds. Sophomore guard Chrissy Forster (Lewisberry, Pa.) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points and seven rebounds. Coach Palmer also got nine and eight points, respectively from Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.) and Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.). Brown grabbed seven rebounds in the win.
Pitt Johnstown finished the day shooting 42.9% (24-56) from the field and 7-17 from three-point range. The Lady Cats also connected on 22 of their 27 free-throws, while the Lady Jackets were just 9-14 from the free-throw line. West Virginia State was 26-63 (41.3%) from the field and 2-7 from behind the three-point line. Pitt Johnstown also outrebounded the Lady Jackets, 42-31.
Brittany Mingo scored 19 points and pulled down six rebounds. Danielle Davis tallied 11 points, and Tiffany Finkton scored 10 points and had seven rebounds to help pace the Lady Jackets, who slipped to 6-16 overall and 4-11 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host East Region #3 West Liberty State (WV) College on Monday, as part of a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats. The Lady Cats will play West Liberty State at 5:30 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
