Lady Cats Win Fourth Straight, 69-66, Over Seton Hill

Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored 20 points and connected on a pair of late free-throws that helped seal a 69-66 Lady Cat victory over Seton Hill University, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown has won four straight games and improved to 8-7 overall and 6-5 in the WVIAC.
Kelly Goode (Cincinnati, OH) and Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) combined to score 23 of the Lady Cats' 31 first half points. Goode and Dalton accounted for the first 13 to help Pitt-Johnstown run out to a 13-8 lead nine minutes into the game.
Jordan Burkes' basket 4:33 later capped an 11-1 Seton Hill run to put the Griffins up 19-14. However, the Lady Cats outscored Seton Hill 17-7 over the final 6:28 of the half to take a 31-26 lead.
Goode's three-pointer at 5:43 quickly knotted it 19. Pitt-Johnstown then pushed it out to a six-point advantage at 30-24 on two Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD) free-throws with 1:49 remaining, before the Lady Cats headed into the halftime break ahead by five.
Jill Emberg's bucket 2:29 into the second half tied it at 33 for the Griffins, but on the next possession, Aden made a lay-up and a free-throw to give the lead back to Pitt-Johnstown.
It remained close with seven ties and nine lead changes for the next 10 minutes. Pitt-Johnstown eventually pushed its lead out to 59-54 on Rachel Johnson's (Palmyra, Pa.) lay-up with 7:23 to play.
The Griffins answered with six straight to take a 60-59 lead in on Burkes' free-throw at 3:45.
Dalton's three-pointer with just over two minutes on the clock put Pitt-Johnstown up 66-62. After Seton Hill pulled to within one on Marie Olesky's three-pointer, Johnson hit a free-throw with 37 seconds left, and Aden connected on two free-throws with 14 seconds to seal the three-point win.
Aden's 20 points and four rebounds led three Lady Cats who scored in double-figures. Dalton finished with 17 points and five rebounds, and Goode added 15 points and nine rebounds. Pitt-Johnstown also got seven points from Maria Montini (Irwin, Pa.) and six points and four rebounds from Johnson off the bench.
Aden currently stands in 11th-place on the Lady Cats All-Time Scoring List with 1,366 points and 22nd on the all-time rebounding list with 504 rebounds, while Dalton is 23rd on the scoring list with 1,153 points and 24th on the all-time rebounding list with 490.
The Lady Cats shot 40% (24-60) from the floor, 7-21 from three-point range and 14-18 from the free-throw line. Seton Hill, which out-rebounded Pitt-Johnstown 38-32, shot 47.2% (25-53) from the field, 6-18 from behind the three-point line and 10-16 from the charity stripe.
Burkes led all scorers with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Joya Whittington added 10 points and six rebounds for the Griffins, who fell to 11-5 overall and 7-6 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Ohio Valley (WV) University on Thursday at 6 p.m., before traveling to the University of Charleston (WV) for another conference game on Saturday.
