Cale's 29 Points Lead Lady Cats to WVIAC Win at Seton Hill

Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) poured in a game-high 29 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Lady Cat basketball team to a 76-70 victory at Seton Hill University to open the WVIAC schedule, Wednesday evening. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.
The Lady Cats climbed out to a 22-13 lead 12 minutes into the game, before taking a 36-25 halftime lead. Pitt-Johnstown increased the lead to 14 points on Taylor Griffith's (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) jumper at the 13:53 mark of the second half, before Seton Hill battled back to take a 67-66 lead with 2:14 to play. However, Jamie Gennett's (Davidsville, Pa.) layup with 1:10 left on the clock gave Pitt-Johnstown a 71-70 lead, and the Lady Cats held on for the six-point win.
Cale ended the night shooting 10-17 from the field, 2-3 from three-point range and a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line. Cale also had a six rebounds, three assists, three blocks and four steals. Griffith added 15 points on 7-10 shooting, while Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) rounded out the Lady Cats who scored in double figures with 11 points. Head coach Sasha Palmer also got six points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals from Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.) and seven points from Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) in the victory.
The Lady Cats shot a season-best 52.6% (30-57) from the field, including 57.1% in the second half. Pitt-Johnstown connected on 4-8 from behind the three-point line and 12-16 from the free-throw line. The Lady Cats also forced 26 Griffins' turnovers. Seton Hill shot 44.4% (28-63) and held a 40-25 advantage in rebounding.
Lindsy Muchnock led the Griffins with 20 points. Katie Lintner added 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Orit Farchi chipped in 10 points and Erika Haitz pulled down nine rebounds for Seton Hill, which fell to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Lady Cats will make make their 2008-09 home debut against Shippensburg University on Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day and Kids Day Out on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
