Lady Cats Earn 67-54 Win at Ohio Valley

Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa) scored a game-high 20 points to help the Lady Cat basketball team break open a four-point halftime lead and earn a 67-54 victory at Ohio Valley (WV) University, Thursday evening. With the win, Pitt Johnstown tightened its grip on a chance to host on opening round WVIAC Tournament game and improved to 10-14 overall and 9-8 in league play.
The Lady Cats clawed their way to a 25-17 lead on Cale's jumper with 7:47 to play in the first half. The Lady Scots answered with a 13-5 run over the next 4:35 to tie the score 30-30, before Pitt Johnstown took a 36-32 halftime lead. After Ohio Valley tied the score for the seventh time at the 7:43 mark of the second half, the Lady Cats went on to outscore the Lady Scots 20-7 the rest of the way to secure the 13-point win.
Cale shot 6-11 from the field and connected on all eight of her free-throws to lead a balanced Pitt Johnstown scoring attack. Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) added 11 points and tied her career-high with eight rebounds off of Head Coach Sasha Palmer's bench. Chrissy Forster (Lewisberry, Pa.) scored nine points and pulled down five rebounds, while Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.) scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds. Jill Maurer (Johnstown, Pa.) tallied seven points and seven rebounds in the win.
Both teams struggled shooting from the field, but Pitt Johnstown was able to overcome it by hitting 19-24 (79.2%) from the free-throw line. The Lady Cats shot just 33.9% (21-62) from the field and 33.3% (6-18) from three-point range, while holding Ohio Valley to the same 33.9% (19-56) shooting from the field and 33.3% (6-18) from behind the three-point line. Pitt Johnstown also forced 19 turnovers and out rebounded the Lady Scots, 44-41.
Brittany Brooks' 16 points led three Lady Scots who scored in double figures. Natasha Holloway had 13 points and eight rebounds, while Rachel Deaton rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points. Natalie Kline grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Lady Scots, who fell to 3-21 overall and 3-14 in WVIAC play.
The Lady Cats will host Fairmont State (WV) University and celebrate Senior Night and Alumni Day on Saturday, as part of a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., with the men's Senior Night game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
