Lady Cats Make it Five Straight With Win Over OVU

The Lady Cats opened up a 16-point first half lead and extended it to 24 in the second half on their way to making it five straight wins with an 88-64 victory over Ohio Valley (WV) University, Thursday night in the Sports Center. Andrea Dalton's (Washington, Pa.) game-high 21 points paced five Pitt-Johnstown players who scored in double-figures. The Lady Cats are now 9-7 overall and 7-5 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats, who shot a season- best 55% from the floor with 12 three-pointers, jumped out to a 13-4 lead 5:05 into the game on Andrea Dalton's (Washington, Pa.) basket in the paint. Ohio Valley battled back to cut it to two on three occasions, with the last coming at 8:22 on a Brittany Taylor basket that made it 22-20.
Pitt-Johnstown answered with a 13-1 run over the next 4:52 to push the lead out to 16. Kelly Goode's (Cincinnati, OH) jumper with 4:28 left gave the Lady Cats their first double-digit lead of the night, before another bucket by Dalton pushed the lead to 37-21 with 3:30 left.
The Lady Scots clawed to within six at 37-31 on Rayshell Pittman's three-pointer late in the half, but Maria Montini (Irwin, Pa.) answered with a three of her own with 12 seconds remaining to give Pitt-Johnstown a 40-31 halftime advantage.
The Lady Cats got a three-pointer from Dalton and a short jumper from Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD) to open the second half and get lead back to 14 at 45-31.
Ohio Valley pulled to within 11 on Pittman's basket at 14:55. Pitt-Johnstown quickly matched its 16-point first half lead on two Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) free-throws at 13:50, before Sara Trimarco's (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) three-pointer made it 60-42 just over a minute later.
The Lady Cats built the lead to 23 on Goode's basket midway through the half. The Lady Scots got the deficit down to as many as 17 on Taylor's lay-up at 5:42, but it never got any closer. Katie McBroom's (Derry, Pa.) with 1:10 remaining gave Pitt-Johnstown it largest lead of the night and set the final at 88-64.
Dalton led all scorers with 21 points on 9-13 shooting, 1-3 from three-point range and 2-3 from the free-throw line. Trimarco scored a career-high 15 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists, while Goode also scored 15. Aden had 12 points, five assists and five steals, and Montini chipped in 12 points, all from behind the three-point line, to round out the double-figure scorers.
Aden currently stands in 11th-place on the Lady Cats All-Time Scoring List with 1,378 points and 22nd on the all-time rebounding list with 506 rebounds, while Dalton is 21st on the scoring list with 1,174 points and 24th on the all-time rebounding list with 494.
Pitt-Johnstown which overcame being out-rebounded 38-29, shot an impressive 55.0% (33-60) from the field, 12-20 from three-point range and 10-15 from the free-throw line. Ohio Valley ended the night shooting 41.9% (26-62) from the floor, but just 3-17 from behind the three-point line. The Lady Scots were also 9-12 from the charity stripe.
Kendra Benedict had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Amber Avery added 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Scots, who fell to 10-6 overall and 6-7 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats travel to the University of Charleston (WV) for a WVIAC game on Saturday, before hosting a conference doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Fairmont State (WV) University on Wednesday in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats tip-off at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
