Lady Cats Suffer 69-52 Loss at #8 IUP

Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) scored 17 points and grabbed four rebounds, but the Lady Cat basketball fell behind 44-22 at halftime and suffered a 69-52 loss at NCAA Division II #8-ranked Indiana University (PA), Tuesday evening. Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 1-4 to start the season.
The Crimson Hawks broke open a 19-15 lead with 10:14 to play in the first half by going on a 29-7 run to close out the half. The Lady Cats cut the lead to 51-36 with 9:51 to play on Qiuana Brown's (Monroeville, Pa.) jump shot, but IUP rebuilt the lead to 26 points with just over four minutes left on the clock, before going on to hand Pitt-Johnstown the 17-point loss.
Dalton finished the night shooting 5-8 from the field with three three-pointers. Dalton was also 4-4 from the free-throw line. Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) was the only other Lady Cat to score in double figures. Cale had 12 points, five rebounds and a team-high five assists. Brown had eight points, while Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) collected seven points and a team-high seven rebounds in the loss.
Pitt-Johnstown struggled from the field, shooting just 34.5% (19-55) for the game. The Lady Cats were also 7-23 (30.4%) from three-point range and 7-10 (70.0%) from the free-throw line. IUP ended the night shooting 45.3% (29-64) from the field, 27.8% (5-18) from behind the three-point line and 50.0% (6-12) from the charity stripe. The Crimson Hawks, which held a 42-36 advantage in rebounding, also forced 26 Lady Cat turnovers.
Jahzinga Tracey had game-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead three Crimson Hawks who scored in double figures. Lacey Claar tallied 16 points and seven rebounds, and Kylie Miller chipped in 11 points to help IUP improve to 3-0.
The Lady Cats host #6-ranked California University (PA) on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Ohio Valley (WV) University for a WVIAC game on Thursday, Dec. 4.
