Lady Cats' Win Streak Snapped With Loss at Charleston

Andrea Dalton scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, but the University of Charleston (WV) used a 17-8 run late in the second half to break open a one-point game and hand the Lady Cats' a 69-58 road loss on Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown had its five-game winning streak snapped and slipped to 9-8 overall and 7-6 in the WVIAC.
Charleston scored the first six points and ran out to a 17-6 lead on Erika Rousculp's three-pointer at 13:22.
The Lady Cats got five points apiece from Inaya Stephenson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Maria Montini (Irwin, Pa.) to highlight a 10-2 run over the next five minutes to pull Pitt-Johnstown to within three at 19-16 at the 12 minute mark.
The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 24-16 on a Lindsey Kentner three-pointer, but Dalton connected on a three-pointer of her own to cut the Lady Cat deficit to 27-24 with 3:29 left in the first half.
However, Tiani Beatty's lay-up capped a quick 5-0 Charleston run to extend the lead back out to eight with a minute left, before the Golden Eagles went into the halftime break leading 32-26.
Kentner scored five points to open the second half and build the Charleston lead to 37-26. The Lady Cats battled back with five points from Dalton and a bucket by Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) to cut it to 37-33 at 16:23.
Pitt-Johnstown got as close as one at 50-49 on Stephenson's basket with 9:06 remaining, but the Lady Cats just could not complete the combeack.
The Golden Eagles outscored Pitt-Johnstown 13-2 over the next seven minutes to extend the lead to 63-52 with 2:10 to play, before going on to the 11-point win.
Dalton had 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Aden scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds to account for the only Lady Cats to score in double-figures. Stephenson scored nine points, and Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) had a career-high 11 rebounds.
Aden stands in 11th-place on the Lady Cats All-Time Scoring List with 1,395 points and 22nd on the all-time rebounding list with 514 rebounds, while Dalton is 19th on the scoring list with 1,193 points and 23rd on the all-time rebounding list with 505.
Pitt-Johnstown struggled shooting the ball, hitting just 31.5% (23-73). The Lady Cats were also just 5-24 from three-point range and 7-12 from the free-throw line. Charleston shot 39.1% (27-69) from the floor, 6-19 from behind the three-point line and 9-14 from the charity stripe.
Tarena Dixon had game-high sof 20 points and 15 rebounds, and Kentner added 17 points to pace the Golden Eagles, who improved to 16-5 overall and 12-3 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Fairmont State (WV) University on Wednesday in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats tip-off at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m. Pitt-Johnstown will then travel to Bluefield State (WV) College for another conference game on Saturday.
