Lady Cats Earn 74-58 WVIAC Win at Ohio Valley

Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) had game-highs of 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Taylor Griffith (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) added 21 points to lead the Lady Cat basketball team to a 74-58 victory at WVIAC rival Ohio Valley (WV) University, Thursday evening. Pitt-Johnstown snapped a three-game losing skid and improved to 2-5 overall and 2-0 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats jumped out to a 22-6 lead 6:07 into the game, before ending the first half with a 38-31 advantage. Pitt-Johnstown came out in the second half on a 14-7 run and increased the lead to 52-38 on Aden's jump shot with 15:03 to play. Ohio Valley battled back to cut the deficit to 57-53 with 7:56 left on the clock, but the Lady Cats held the Fighting Scots to just five points the rest of the way and secured the 16-point victory.
Aden ended the evening shooting 6-8 from the field and 10-14 from the free-throw line. Aden also grabbed six of her 10 rebounds on the offensive end and made a career-high six steals. Griffith shot 10-20 from the field with five rebounds and three steals, while Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) rounded out the Lady Cats who scored in double figures with 11 points. Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) chipped in nine points and three rebounds, and Jamie Gennett (Davidsville, Pa.) collected five points and eight rebounds in the victory.
Pitt-Johnstown, which forced 30 Fighting Scots' turnovers, shot 41.8% (28-67) from the field and 4-19 from three-point range. The Lady Cats hit 14 of their 20 free-throws. Ohio Valley finished the night shooting 42.4% (25-59) from the field, but just 2-12 (16.7%) from behind the three-point line and 6-16 (37.5%) from the charity stripe. The Fighting Scots out rebounded Pitt-Johnstown 44-40.
Brittany Taylor led Ohio Valley with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Alana Auld tallied 10 points and five rebounds. Kendra Benedict had six points and seven rebounds, and Tiffani Moody collected six points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Lady Scots, who fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Lady Cats will break for Finals Week, before hosting Slippery Rock University on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
