Lady Cats Run by Wheeling Jesuit, 82-57

The Lady Cats broke open a seven-point game with a 15-2 run to start the second half en route to an 82-57 WVIAC victory over Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, Monday night int he Sports Center. Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) scored 17 points and matched her career-high with 15 rebounds to help Pitt-Johnstown win its third straight game and eighth in its last nine to improve to 12-8 overall and 10-6 in conference-play.
Wheeling Jesuit's Kourtney Booth hit a three-pointer two minutes in to put the Cardinals up 3-0, but Pitt-Johnstown used an 18-2 run over the next 4:45 to take an 18-5 lead.
Sheena Aden's (Sandy Lake, Pa.) traditional three-point-play sandwiched between three-pointers from Dalton and Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) made it 9-3, before another Aden basket pushed the lead into double digits at 15-5 just over six minutes into the half.
The Lady Cats then built it to 18-5 on Kayla Loughner's (Brinklow, MD) lay-up at 13:27.
Wheeling Jesuit clawed its way back to get to within five on a Lauren Myers' basket with 2:48 to play, but Inaya Stephenson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored six of Pitt-Johnstown's final eight points to help the Lady Cats take a 33-26 advantage at the half.
Pitt-Johnstown took control to start the second half. Kelly Goode (Cincinnati, OH) scored seven points to spark a 15-2 Lady Cat run to start the second half run. Dalton's bucket at 15:06 capped the run and gave Pitt-Johnstown a 48-28 lead.
The Lady Cats pushed the margin to 23 at 57-34 on two Dalton free-throws with 12:11 to play.
Wheeling Jesuit scored the next seven to cut it to 16, but back-to-back Goode three-pointers quickly got it back out to 22 at 63-41 midway through the half.
The Cardinals never got closer than 20. Pitt-Johnstown pushed the lead to as many as 26 on a Grace Hyland (Pittsburgh, Pa.) basket at the four-minute mark, before rolling to the 25-point win.
Dalton led all scorers and three Lady Cats who scored in double-figures with 17 points and a 15 rebounds. Goode had 16 points, including four three-pointers, and five rebounds, while Aden collected 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Stephenson and Hyland each had nine points and three rebounds, and Loughner had seven points, three rebounds and four assists.
Aden stands in eighth-place on the Lady Cats All-Time Scoring List with 1,444 points, and tied with LuAnnKetter (1980-84) for 20th on the all-time rebounding list with 532 rebounds, while Dalton is tied with Maureen Latterner (1981-85) for 16th on the scoring list with 1,237 points and 19th on the all-time rebounding list with 534.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 46.2% (30-65) from the field, while holding Wheeling Jesuit to just 29.9% (20-67) shooting, including just 4-19 from three-point range. The Lady Cats, who held a 50-39 advantage in rebounding, were 7-17 from behind the three-point line and 15-22 from the free-throw line. The Cardinals hit 13-16 from the charity stripe.
Booth had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Megan Stuvek had 12 points and six rebounds to pace the Cardinals, who fell to 6-15 overall and 5-12 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats travel to West Liberty (WV) University for a WVIAC game on Thursday, before hosting a doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College for Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
