Lady Cats Dominate Millersville, 64-47, in Home Opener

Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cat basketball team made its 2006-07 home debut a good one with a convincing, 64-47, win over Millersville University, Sunday afternoon in the Sports Center. Senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) poured in a game-high 22 points to lead Pitt Johnstown, now 2-1 on the year.
Krischer connected on seven of her 15 shots, including 5-7 from behind the three-point line and 3-4 from the free-throw line to lead three Lady Cats who scored in double figures. Krischer also grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists, while sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) added career-highs of 14 points and seven rebounds. Lady Cat senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points. Zapf also had seven rebounds. Her seven rebounds tied her with Lynne Ashbridge (1986-90) for 13th on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 640. Coach Gault also got a game-high and career-high 11 rebounds from junior forward Sarah Priest (Johnstown, Pa.) in the win.
Pitt Johnstown took a 31-24 halftime lead, before building a 16-point lead with 17:03 to play. The Lady Cats maintained that double-digit lead for the reamainder of the game.
The Lady Cats shot the ball well from the field and played solid defense. Pitt Johnstown wrapped up the day shooting 51.1% (23-45) from the field, 60.0% (6-10) from three-point range and 70.6% (12-17) from the free-throw line, while holding the Marauders to just 31.6% (18-57) fromt he field, 25.0% (4-16) from behind the three-point line and 58.3% ( 7-12) from the free-throw line. The Lady Cats also out rebounded Millersville 40-26 for the game and did not allow any Marauders to score in double figures.
Ashley Romanoski's nine points and eight rebounds led the way for Millersville, now 2-1 on the season.
The Lady Cats will host shippensburg University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday and to Clarion University on Wednesday, December 6.
