Lady Cats Keep Rolling With 59-50 Win Over Alderson-Broaddus on Breast Cancer Awareness Day

Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) poured in a game-high 20 points to help the lady Cats build an 18-point second half lead in a 59-50 victory over Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College, Saturday afternoon on Breast Cancer Awareness Day in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown has won five straight and 10 of 11 to improve to 14-8 overall and 12-6 in the WVIAC.
Dalton scored seven quick points, and Kelly Goode (Cincinnati, OH) connected on a three-pointer 7:11 into the first half to help the Lady Cats run out to a 15-4 lead.
Hailey Purcell's three-pointer cut the Alderson-Broaddus deficit to 19-12, but Pitt-Johnstown scored the next seven, capped by another Goode three-pointer, to push the lead out to 26-12 with 7:29 left in the half.
After the Lady Battlers pulled to within nine with just under five minutes remaining, Sheena Aden's (Sandy Lake, Pa.) basket in the paint got the lead back to 14 at 1:17, before Brittni Shriver hit a pair of free-throws for Alderson-Broaddus to make it a 35-23 game at the break.
Rachel Johnson's (Palmyra, Pa.) three-pointer four minutes into the second half extended the Lady Cat lead to 16, before Dalton's bucket at 14:38 made it an 18-point game at 47-29.
The Lady Battlers got as close as five on Purcell's short jumper with 2:05 on the clock, but the Lady Cats knocked down four free-throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Aden stands in sixth-place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,492 points, and 20th on the all-time rebounding list with 543 rebounds, while Dalton is 15th on the scoring list with 1,285 points and 17th on the rebounding list with 555.
Dalton led all scorers and three Lady Cats who scored in double-figures with 20 points and seven rebounds. Aden tallied 17 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Goode finished with 11 points. Johnson chipped in seven points and five rebounds, and Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) dished out a game-high nine assists.
Pitt-Johnstown shot just 35.2% (19-54) from the field, 4-16 from three-point range, and 17-26 from the free-throw line. The Battlers, who out-rebounded the Lady Cats 41-29, shot 38.0% (19-50) from the floor, 6-22 from behind the three-point line and 6-6 from the charity stripe.
Cayla Rhodes' 12 points and Amanda Peoples's nien points and game-high 13 rebounds led the way for Alderson-Broaddus, which fell to 2-20 overall and 2-16 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats will host a doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against against Shepherd (WV) University on Thursday starting at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center and a doubleheader against West Virginia State University on Saturday tipping-off at 2 p.m.
