Aden's Free-Throws Lead Lady Cats to 72-70 Overtime Win at WV Wesleyan

Sheena Aden's (Sandy Lake, Pa.) pair of free-throws with :01 left in overtime led the Lady Cat basketball team to a 72-70 victory at West Virginia Wesleyan College and sole possession of the top-spot in the WVIAC, Monday Night. Aden, named conference co-player of the week earlier in the day, scored a game-high 27 points to help Pitt-Johnstown to its sixth straight win. The Lady Cats are now 7-5 overall and 5-0 in the WVIAC.
West Virginia Wesleyan's Lydia Bridenbaugh's jumper with 1:22 left in the second half tied the score at 60 and forced overtime. The Lady Cats opened up 70-65 lead on Aden's three-pointer with :57 on the clock, but Sarah Van Horn tallied the next five points for the Bobcats to knot the score at 70 with :08. Then, with the clock winding down, Aden was fouled by Alex Hertenstein and knocked down two free-throws with :01 left to give Pitt-Johnstown the victory.
The Lady Cats moved out to a 19-13 lead on Andrea Dalton's (Washington, Pa.) jumper 7:14 into the game, but West Virginia Wesleyan came back to take a 22-21 2:40 later. With the game tie 30-30 at the 5:07 mark, the Lady Cats closed out the first half on an 8-4 run to take a 38-34 halftime lead.
The Bobcats came out in the second half on a 21-9 run to take a 51-44 lead at 12:07, before the Lady Cats battled back to regain the lead at 58-56 with 2:27 to play. Aden's jumper at 1:44 put Pitt-Johnstown up 60-58, but Bridenbaugh's jumper :22 later evened the score for the 13th time in the game and forced overtime.
Aden led all scorers with 27 points on 8-10 shooting from the field, 3-4 from three-point range and 8-10 from the free-throw line. Dalton added 20 points on 9-17 shooting with a pair of three pointers, while Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points. Jamie Gennett (Davidsville, Pa.) and Monae Baker (Bushkill, Pa.) chipped in six points and five rebounds apiece, and Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) dished out a game-high six assists in the victory.
The Lady Cats, who overcame 27 turnovers, shot 50.0% (28-56) from the field, 7-20 from three-point range and 9-12 from the free-throw line. Pitt-Johnstown held the Bobcats to 44.8% (26-58) shooting, including just 4-13 from behind the three-point line. West Virginia Wesleyan, who out rebounded the Lady Cats 34-33, was just 14-22 from the charity stripe and committed 25 turnovers.
Van Horn's 24 points and game-high 13 rebounds led West Virginia Wesleyan. Bridenbaugh (13 points) and Angela Tassari (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Bobcats, who fell to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host WVIAC doubleheaders in the Sports Center against Davis & Elkins (WV) College on Thursday and Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Saturday. The Lady Cats will tip-off both doubleheaders at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's games at 7:30 p.m.
