Lady Cats Deal Slippery Rock, 56-50 Loss in Sports Center

Pitt Johnstown senior guard Allison Krischer's (Johnstown, Pa.) game-high 17 points led the way in a 56-50 home victory over visiting Slippery Rock University, Friday night in the Sports Center. With the win, Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cats snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-3 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown climbed out to a 26-23 halftime lead, before going on an 18-5 run to start the second half. The Lady Cats led 44-29 with 12:14 to play, but Slippery Rock battled back to cut the lead to 52-47 with 1:56 on the clock. However, that was as close as it would get, and Pitt Johnstown was able to hold on for the six-point win.
Krischer, the only Lady Cat to score in double figures, also had four rebounds, a game-high six assists and two steals. Red-shirt sophomore forward Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) added nine points, including hitting seven of her eight free-throw attempts, and six rebounds, and sophomore guard Lindsey McCombie (Nicktown, Pa.) chipped in seven first half points to give Pitt Johnstown a spark off the bench. Coach Gault also got seven points and seven rebounds from sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) and six points and seven rebounds from senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
With her seven rebounds, Zapf passed Janine Kosmack (1996-00) and jumped ito 12th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 664 career rebounds. Zapf enters Sunday's game against Point Park University 17 rebounds shy of Suzy Shimkus (1980-84) for 11th on the list.
It was a defensive battle,as neither team shot the ball well. The Lady Cats shot 17-50 (34.0%) from the floor, 4-14 (28.6%) from three-point range and 18-30 (60.0%) from the free-throw line, while The Rock connected on just 37.0% (20-54) of their shots. Slippery Rock was also 1-11 (9.1%) from behind the three-point line and 9-12 (75.0%) at the free-throw line.
Nikki Presto scored 13 points and Amanda Chojnacki had 10 points and seven reboudns to lead The Rock, now 2-5 on the year.
The Lady Cats host Point Park University on Sunday at 2:00 p.m., before breaking for finals and the holiday season.
