Lady Cats Make Bluefield State 10th Straight Win

The Lady Cat basketball team overcame 37% shooting to extend its win streak to 10 straight games and improve to 11-5 overall and 9-0 in the WVIAC with a 64-45 victory at Bluefield State (WV) College, Saturday evening. Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) scored a game-high 18 points to lead three Pitt-Johnstown players who scored in double figures.
Pitt-Johnstown climbed out to a 17-9 lead on Lindsay Cale's (Hummelstown, Pa.) free-throws 11 minutes into the game. Bluefield State cut the deficit to 17-12 on Kathleen Bailey's layup and free-throw with 7:29 remaining, but the Lady Cats used a 12-2 run over the next 5:24 to extend the lead to 15 points on Qiuana Brown's (Monroeville, Pa.) layup, before taking a 32-19 halftime lead.
The Lady Blues scored the first four points of the second half climb to within nine. Pitt-Johnstown responded and outscored Bluefield State 10-2 to build the lead to 42-25 on Dalton's with 14:53 to play. The Lady Blues never got closer than 11 points. Brown's jumper with 1:53 to play gave the Lady Cats their largest lead of the game at 62-39, and Pitt-Johnstown cruised to the 19-point victory.
Dalton led all scorers with 18 points on 8-15 shooting from the field. Dalton also pulled down six rebounds, while Cale tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and a game-high five assists. Kaitlin Urban (Johnstown, Pa.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points, including four three-pointers. Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) collected eight points and six rebounds, and Monae Baker (Bushkill, Pa.) tallied seven points and five rebounds.
Pitt-Johnstown overcame 37.3% (25-67) shooting for the game, including just 33.3% shooting in the first half to earn the win. The Lady Cats were also just 6-34 from three-point range. Pitt-Johnstown, which held a 43-37 advantage in rebounding, hit 8-10 from the free-throw line and held Bluefield State to just 33.3% (16-48) shooting for the game and forced 23 turnovers.
Ebony Miller led the way for Bluefield State with 11 points and eight rebounds. Angelica Kimbrough added eight points and Monay Cherry chipped in seven rebounds for the Lady Blues, who fell to 2-14 overall and 0-10 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against the University of Charleston (WV) on Monday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
