Lady Cats Defeat Daemen 71-60 to Advacnce to Title Game of Mountain Cat Tournament

Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) scored 23 points and Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cat basketball team to a 71-60 win over Daemen (NY) College in Friday's opening round of the 2006 Cummings Trophies & Engraving Mountain Cat Tournament. Pitt Johnstown will take on Bloomfield (NJ) College in Saturday's championship game at 3:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
Krischer finished the night shooting 10-20 from the field, including 3-6 from three-point range. Krischer also grabbed five rebounds and dished out a game-high six assists. Zapf was 8-14 from the field and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Nine of Zapf's game-high 10 rebounds came on the defensive end. Coach Gault also got career-highs of 10 points and seven rebounds from red-shirt sophomore Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) and 10 points and three rebounds from senior Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.). Sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown,. Pa.) scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists and made three steals to help the lady Cats improve to 6-3.
Pitt Johnstown jumped out to a 12-point lead 15 minutes into the game, before taking a 42-36 halftime lead. The Lady Cats continued put the pressure on the Wildcats in the second half. Pitt Johnstown opened up a 13-point lead with 11:10 to play in the game and cruised to the 11-point victory.
The Lady Cats shot an impressive 49.1% (28-57) from the field, 62.5% (5-8) from behind the three-point line and 83.3% (10-12) from the free-throw line, while holding Daemen to 25-60 (41.7%) from the field and 2-11 (18.2%) from three-point range. Pitt Johnstown also out rebounded the Wildcats, 38-31.
Allison Depp's 23 points and nine rebounds led the way for Daemen. Germany Jackson added 16 points, five assists and four steals for the Wildcats, now 10-3 on the year.
In Friday's opening game, Bloomfield earned a 60-43 win over Tiffin (OH) University to advance to Saturday's championship game. Marissa Franklin scored 18 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to lead Bloomfield. Sarah Pitson's 15 points led the way for Tiffin. Tiffin will take on Daemen in Saturday's consolation game at 1:00 p.m.
