Lady Cats Lose at Seton Hill In Regular Season Finale

Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) scored a game-high 21 points, but Seton Hill climbed out to a 10-point halftime lead and went on to deal the Lady Cats a 74-65 road loss in Saturday's regular season-finale. Pitt-Johnstown has lost three straight and fell to 15-11 overall and 13-9 in the WVIAC.
Seton Hill ran out to an 11-point lead nine minutes into the game. Joya Whittington's lay-up put the Griffins up 14-6. Dalton followed with a three-pointer for the Lady Cats to cut the deficit to 14-9, but Clare Berenato's short jumper at 11:09 gave Seton Hill a 20-9 lead.
Pitt-Johnstown answered with a 10-3 run over the next 2:48, capped by Maria Montini's (Irwin, Pa.) three-pointer, to get the Lady Cats to within four at 23-19.
Whittington and Jordan Burkes answered with back-to-back three-pointer for the Griffins to push the margin back into double-digits, before Montini's third three-pointer made it 33-30 with 2:08 left in the half.
However, Seton Hill scored the final seven to take a 40-30 halftime advantage.
Kelly Goode's (Cincinnati, OH) three-pointer early in the second half cut it to 44-37, but the Griffins extended the lead to 12 at 56-44 on Paige Alviani's lay-in midway through the half.
Seton Hill built the lead to 14 with 5:16 to play, before Pitt-Johnstown scored nine straight to pull to within five at 62-57 on Goode's steal and breakaway lay-up.
The Lady Cats couldn't get any closer. The Griffins outscored Pitt-Johnstown 12-8 down the stretch to seal the win.
Dalton led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) added 18 points and eight rebounds, while Montini finished with nine points. Goode had seven points and three reobunds, and Rachel Johnson (Palmyra, Pa.) pulled down four rebounds off the bench.
Aden stands in fourth-place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,565 points, and 18th on the all-time rebounding list with 564 rebounds, while Dalton is 12th on the scoring list with 1,377 points and 17th on the rebounding list with 595.
The Lady Cats shot just 39.15 (25-64) from the field and just 8-16 from the free-throw line. Pitt-Johnstown also hit seven three-pointers. Seton Hill ended the day shooting 51.7% (30-58) from the floor, 5-9 from behind the three-point line and 9-10 from the charity stripe.
Whittington paced the Griffins with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Burkes and Alviani each scored 14 points for Seton Hill, which has won six straight and improved to 20-6 overall and 16-6 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats open-up the 2011 WVIAC Tournament Monday night in the Sports Center. A win on Monday would put Pitt-Johnstown in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, WV.
