Jessica Zapf Nears 1,000 Points In Lady Cat Win at IUP

01/03/2007

Senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cats to a 69-63 win at Indiana University (PA) on Wednesday. Zapf is now 15 points shy of becoming the 29th Lady Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Pitt Johnstown has won five straight games and improved to 8-3.
Zapf's 22 point gave her 985 for her career, while her 11 rebounds gave her 713 to move her within nine rebounds of Helen Young (1999-03) for 10th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List.
After trailing 39-32 at halftime, Coach Gualt's Lady Cats outscored IUP, 37-24 in the second half to secure the victory.
Zapf finished the night 7-13 from the field and 8-8 from the free-throw line. Zapf also blocked four shots, dished out three assists and made one steal, while senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.), this week's WVIAC Co-Player of the Week, added 17 points, four assists and three rebounds. Sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points. Red-shirt sophomore forward Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.) pulled down six rebounds, and senior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) hit a pair of three-pointers and ended with seven points for Coach Gault's Lady Cats.
Pitt Johnstown got the job done from the free-throw line. The Lady Cat made 21 of their 25 attempts (84.0%), while the Crimson Hawks were 8-10 from the free-throw line. Pitt Johnstown also held IUP to just 34.7% (25-72) shooting from the field, while making 23 of their 55 (41.8%) shots from the floor.
Jahzinga Tracey's 22 points and eight rebounds and Katie Glaws' 18 points and 11 rebounds led the way for the Crimson Hawks, now 7-4 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown travels to Columbia Union (MD) College on January 11, before returning home to host Concord (WV) University on Alumni Day as part of a doubleheader with the Mountain Cat basketball team on Saturday, January 13. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 3:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 5:00 p.m.
