Lady Cat Season Ends With Loss to Glenville State in WVIAC Quarterfinals

03/02/2011

Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) scored a game-high 26 points and Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) added 20 points, but third-seeded Glenville State (WV) College climbed out to a 13-point halftime lead and ended the sixth-seeded Lady Cats' season with a 91-73 victory in Wednesday's WVIAC Quarterfinals at the Charleston (WV) Civic Center.
The Lady Pioneers' up-tempo style proved to be the difference. Glenville State turned 31 Pitt-Johntown turnovers into 35 points, while holding the Lady Cats to just 11 points off of 16 Lady Pioneers' turnovers.
Dalton scored inside to put the Lady Cats up 12-8 4:30 into the game, but Glenville State responded with a 19-4 run over the next eight minutes to build an 11-point lead.
Five straight points from Tenisha Wilson's made it 14-11, before a Kristen Golden lay-up pushed the Glenville State lead to 11 7:55 left in the half.
The Lady Cats clawed back to within eight. Aden made a pair of free-throws and Dalton hit a jumper with just under a minute remaining to cut the deficit to eight, but Autumn Davis hit a three-pointer and Wilson followed with a basket to give the Lady Pioneers a 45-32 halftime lead.
Tamara Blankenship (Saltsburg, Pa.) scored three minutes into the second half to get Pitt-Johnstown to within 11 at 50-39, but the Lady Pioneers answered again with an 18-6 run to extend the margin to 68-45 at the 11:14 mark on back-to-back Kim Stephens three-pointers.
Pitt-Johnstown scored nine of the next 11 to get to within 16 on Aden's basket at 6:16.
The Lady Cats continued to battle and got as close as 13 on four occasions, with the last coming on Dalton's lay-up at 1:39 to make it 86-73.
The Lady Pioneers rebuilt the lead to 18, before going on to win by that amount.
Dalton led all scorers with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Aden collected 20 points and six rebounds. Kelly Goode (Cincinnati, OH) had seven points and nine rebounds, and Stacy Goode (Cincinnati, OH) and Inaya Stephenson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added four points apiece. Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) and Rachel Johnson (Palmyra, Pa.) each grabbed five rebounds.

Aden ended her career in fourth-place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,602 points, and 18th on the all-time rebounding list with 576 rebounds, while Dalton finished 11th on the scoring list with 1,417 points and tied with Justine George (1993-97) for 15th on the rebounding list with 611.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 41.9% (26-62) from the field, 1-5 from three-point range, and 20-30 from the free-throw line. Glenville State shot 34.7% (33-95) from the floor, 6-26 from behind the three-point line, and 19-25 from the charity stripe.

Danielle Woodmore scored 21 points, and Wilson tallied 20 points to lead five Glenville State players who scored in double figures. With the win, the Lady Pioneers improved to 21-8 and advance to Friday's WVIAC Semifinals.
