Krischer Scores 26 points In Lady Cat 71-37 Win at Columbia Union; Zapf Moves to Within Four Points of 1,000

Lady Cat senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) poured in 26 points and senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.), scored 11 points to move to within four points of becoming the 29th Lady Cat to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau in a 71-37 victory at Columbia Union (MD) College, Wednesday night. Pitt Johnstown has won six straight games and improved to 9-3 on the season.
Krischer's 26 points on 10-21 shooting from the field, including five three-pointers, led a Pitt Johnstown attack that saw three Lady Cats score in double figures and seven others score at least two points. Krischer also had six steals. Zapf scored 11 points and senior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) finished with 10 points on 5-8 shooting from the field. Head Coach Jodi Gault also got seven points and five rebounds from sophomore guard Lindsey McCombie (Nicktown, Pa.) and five points and five rebounds from sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.). Red-shirt junior forward Sarah Priest (Johnstown, Pa.) scored three points, pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and blocked two shots in the victory.
With her 26 points, Krischer now has 949 career points.
Zapf, who needed 15 points to reach the 1,000-point mark, was 4-11 from the field and 3-3 from the free-throw line. Zapf also made a career-high nine steals and grabbed four rebounds to give her 717 rebounds in her Lady Cat career. She is now five rebounds shy of tying Helen Young (1999-2003) for 10th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List.
Pitt Johnstown,, which built a 34-20 halftime lead, outscored the Pioneers, 37-17 in the second half. The Lady Cats finished the game 27-69 (39.1%) from the field, 7-24 (29.2%) from three-point range and 10-17 (58.8%) from the free-throw line. The Lady Cat defense held Columbia Union to just 21.6% (11-51) shooting for the game. Pitt Johnstown also forced 38 Pioneer turnovers and made 24 steals.
Tiffani Clarke scored 10 points and Willona Johnson had a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Pioneers, now 0-16 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown returns home on Saturday to host Concord (WV) University on Alumni Day as part of a doubleheader with the Mountain Cat basketball team.. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 3:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 5:00 p.m. Pitt Johnstown will then travel to nationally-ranked Glenville State (WV) College on Monday, before returning home to host West Chester University on Thursday, January 18 at 6:00 p.m.
