Lady Cats Suffer 80-75 Loss at Glenville State

Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored 13 of her game-high 23 points in the first half to help Pitt-Johnstown build an 18-point lead at Glenville State (WV) College on Saturday, but the Lady Pioneers battled back to erase the deficit and upset the Lady Cats, 80-75. Pitt-Johnstown is now 13-7 overall and 11-2 in the WVIAC.
Pitt-Johnstown raced out to a 17-7 lead on Lindsay Cale's (Hummelstown, Pa.) layup seven minutes into the game, before the Lady Cats increased it to 34-16 on two of Aden's 13 first half points with 6:05 remaining. Glenville State answered with a 17-7 run to cut the deficit to 41-33 with to 1:45 play, before Pitt-Johnstown took a 44-33 halftime adavantage.
The Lady Pioneers continued to hold the momentum to start the second half. Donita Adam's three-pointer with 14:14 left capped a 19-7 run to give Glenville State its first lead of the night at 52-51. The Lady Cats recovered to rebuild the lead to 58-54 at the 11:20 mark on Andrea Dalton's (Washington, Pa.) made free-throw. The Lady Pioneers battled back again to regain the lead 60-59 on Kristen Golden's layup and free-throw with 9:06 to play. Glenville State increased the lead to 65-59 at 7:51, before Pitt-Johnstown clawed its way back to go up 68-67 on Aden's lay-up with 4:27 left. However, the Lady Pioneers outscored the Lady Cats 13-7 to secure the five-point win.
Aden tallied 23 points on 6-14 shooting from the field and 11-11 from the free-throw line to lead four Lady Cats who scored in double figures. Aden also grabbed five rebounds. Monae Baker (Bushkill, Pa.) collected 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while Dalton finished with 14 points and four rebounds. Cale, who now has 967 career points, rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) dished out a game-high nine assists for the Lady Cats.
The Lady Cats shot just 35.9% (23-64) from the field and 3-15 from three-point range. Pitt-Johnstown also hit 26-34 from the free-throw line. Glenville State, which out rebounded Pitt-Johnstown 46-38, ended the night shooting 40.0% (26-65) from the field, 9-21 from three-point range and 19-22 from the charity stripe.
Mallory Menendez led Glenville State with 17 points, including 5-10 from behind the three-point line. Adams (14 points), Golden (12 points), Christine DiSabato (11 points) and Beth Deren (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Lady Pioneers, who improved to 7-12 overall and 5-8 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats will host a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against West Virginia State University on Monday beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center. Atlantic Broadband will air Monday's games on a tape-delay basis on channel 14 in the Johnstown market and on channel 9 in the Altoona market. Check the Pitt-Johnstown website for air times.
