Jessica Zapf Scores 1,000th Career-Point In 74-71 Overtime Victory Over Concord University

Senior forward Jessica Zapf (North Hills, Pa.) became the 29th Lady Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau in Pitt Johnstown's thrilling, 74-71 overtime victory over Concord (WV) University Saturday afternoon on alumni Day in the Sports Center. Zapf, who needed four points to reach the mark, finished with 18 points to help Head Coach Jodi Gault's Lady Cats extend their winning streak to seven games and improve to 10-3 on the year.
Zapf finished 5-11 shooting from the field and 8-10 from the free-throw line, but it was her lay-up with 11:45 to play in the first half that gave her the milestone. Zapf also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds and made five steals. She now ranks 28th on the All-Time Scoring List with 1,014 career points. Zapf is just 21 points shy of Deb Deaner (1975-79) for 27th place on the list. In addition, Zapf's 12 rebounds also moved her into 10th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebound List with 729 career rebounds. She is now 18 rebounds away from Jill Halapin (1984-88) for ninth place on the rebounding list.
Along with Zapf, senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) scored a game-high 23 points, dished out a team-high seven assists and also made five steals. Krischer, who has 972 career points, is 28 points shy of becoming the 30th Lady Cat to reach the 1,000-point mark.
Sophomore guard Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) and senior guard Chelsea McKinney (St. Petersburg, Pa.) rounded out the double figure scorers for the Lady Cats with 14 points and 10 points, respectively.

The Lady Cats and Lady Lions battled back and forth in the first half, with neither team getting a lead higher than six points, before Concord took the 30-29 lead at halftime. The Lady Cats started the second half on a 10-4 run and built the lead as high as eight points with 4:34 left, but Concord battled back. the Lady Lions erased a 62-56 with :57 seconds to play and tied the game at 62-62 with a buzzer beating jumper. The Lady Cats shot 10-12 from the free-throw line in overtime and held on for the 74-71 win.
Pitt Johnstown finished the game shooting 37.7% (20-53) from the field, 42.9% (3-7) from behind the three-point line and 77.5% (31-40) from the free-throw line, while holding the Lady Lions to 28-69 (41.2%) from the field and 2-18 (11.1%) from three-point range. The Lady Cats also forced 28 turnovers, including 17 steals.
Becca Flanagan's 21 points led the way for the Lady Lions, while Samm Nester (17 points) and Shari Walker (10 points) also scored in double figures for Concord, now 8-3.
Pitt Johnstown will travel to nationally-ranked Glenville State (WV) College on Monday, before returning home to host West Chester University on Thursday, January 18 at 6:00 p.m.
