Lady Cats' Win Streak Ends at Davis & Elkins

Davis & Elkins (WV) College used a 17-4 run midway through the first half to break open a one-point game and snap the Lady Cats' five-game winning streak with a 75-63 WVIAC win, Thursday evening in Elkins, W.Va. Kaitlynn Fratz (Accident, MD) scored a game-high 21 points for Pitt-Johnstown, which slipped to 5-8 overall and 3-6 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats took an 11-10 lead seven minutes into the game on Inaya Stephenson's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) put-back, but it was Davis & Elkins that took control after that.
The Senators outscored Pitt-Johnstown 34-20 the rest of the first half to build a 13-point halftime advantage.
Kiara Stevenson's 3-pointer seven mintues later capped a 17-4 Davis & Elkins to put the Senators up 27-12, before Sara Trimarco (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) answered with a 3-pointer of her own to get Pitt-Johnstown back to within single digits.
After the Senators pushed the lead to 14, the Lady Cats clawed back to within 11 on a Fratz 3-pointer, but Jordan Lykes scored in the paint with under a minute left to give Davis & Elkins a 44-31 halftime lead.
Page Turner's lay-up and free-throw to open the second half extended the lead to 16, but Pitt-Johnstown got eight points from Nicole Carman (Cleveland, OH) and a 3-pointer from Kelsey Sleighter (Uniontown, Pa.) to end an 18-4 Lady Cat run to get Pitt-Johnstown to within two at 51-41.
Davis & Elkins quickly got the lead back to 10 on Turner 3-pointer, then to 14 with 4:29 remaining, and the Lady Cats were never able to recover and suffered their first loss since December 10.
Fratz led alll scorers and three Lady Cats who scored in double-figures with 21 points, including 7-9 from the free-throw line. Carman had 13 points and six rebounds, and Trimarco finished with 13 points and four assists. Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD) pulled down seven rebounds to lead Pitt-Johnstown.
Turner had 18 points and seven rebounds, and Lykes added 11 points for the Senators, who improved to 8-6 overall and 7-3 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game at 3 p.m.
