Women's Basketball Deals West Chester, 81-70, Loss; Allison Krishcer Three Points Shy of 1,000

Lady Cat senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) poured in a game-high 23 points, and senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) scored 11 points to move to within three points of 1,000 in Thursday's, 81-70, victory over West Chester University in the Sports Center. Head Coach Jodi Gault's team is now 11-4 on the year.
Zapf scored 23 points on 6-8 shooting from the field and 11-13 from the free-throw line. Zapf also grabbed a team-high 10 reounds. She is currently ranked 23rd on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,050 points, just one point behind Crystal Barr (2000-04) for 22nd place. In addition, Zapf is also ranked 10th on the Lady Cat All-time Rebounding List with 743 career rebounds. She needs four rebounds to tie Jill Halapin (1984-88) for ninth place and five rebounds to tie Jamie Cicuto (1999-03) for eighth place on the list.
Along with Zapf's efforts, sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) followed-up Monday's career night at Glenville State with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists. Senior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) added 12 points and five rebounds, while Krischer rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points. Krischer also dished out a game-high seven assists and made four steals, while red-shirt junior forward Sarah Priest (Johnstown, Pa.) pulled down seven rebounds int he victory.. With three points, Krischer will become the 30th Lady Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
Pitt Johnstown opened a 16-point lead with 4:36 to play in the first half, before taking a 42-34 halftime lead. West Chester battled back to cut the Lady Cat lead to 72-70 with 2:21to play, but Pitt Johnstown hit nine of its 12 free-throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The Lady Cats got the job, despite shooting just 38.8% (26-67) from the field and 25.0% (6-24) from three-point range. However, Pitt Johnstown hit 23 of its 31 free-throws. The Golden Rams were 8-9 from the free-throw line. West Chester finished the night shooting 29-68 (42.6%) from the floor and 4-16 (25.0%) from behind the three-point line. The Lady Cats also forced 21 turnovers and made 15 steals, while committing only 14 turnovers.
Dominique Lewis led West Chester with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Katie Kline had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Natalie Winters chipped in 11 points for the Golden Rams, now 6-8 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown will continue a three-game home stand on Wednesday against West Liberty State (WV) College. The Lady Cats will also host West Virginia State University on Thursday. Both games will tip-off at 6:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
