Women's Soccer Suffers 3-2 Loss at Seton Hill

10/22/2007

Seton Hill University climbed out to a 2-0 first half lead and held on to defeat the Pitt Johnstown women's soccer team, 3-2, in WVIAC action, Monday afternoon. Head Coach Crystal Dye's team slipped to 8-11-0 overall and 4-8-0 in the WVIAC.
The Griffins built a 2-0 lead on goals from Lisa Letender in the third minute and Stephanie Zangrill in the 29th minute. Pitt Johnstown sophomore forward Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.) tallied an unassisted goal off of a free kick in the 40th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1 at halftime. However, ten minutes into the second half, Seton Hill's Elaine Zaveckas scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a shot that slipped through Pitt Johnstown goalkeeper Stephanie Paha's (Slickville, Pa.) hands. Freshman Amanda Kumar's (Oakmont, Pa.) scored an unassisted goal in the 69th minute cut the Seton Hill to 3-2, but that was as close of Pitt Johnstown would get.
Paha faced 14 shots and made four saves, but took the loss, while Sam Gilarski and Jenna Forzana each played 45 minutes and combined to make seven saves to preserve the win for the Griffins.
With the victory, Seton Hill evened its overall record at 10-10-0 and improved to 7-6-0 in WVIAC play.
Pitt Johnstown will wrap up the 2007 regular season with a WVIAC road match at the University of Charleston (WV) on Wednesday at noon, before playing in the WVIAC Conference Tournament next week.
