Lady Cats Roll 11-0 Over Salem International

The Lady Cat soccer team built an 8-0 halftime lead, and four Pitt-Johnstown players scored two goal each in an 11-0 home win over Salem International (WV) University, Tuesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. The Lady Cats improved to 5-4-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the WVIAC.
Pitt-Johnstown opened-up a 3-0 lead 16 minutes into the match on goals by Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.), Lindsey Plowman (Apollo, Pa.) and Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.). The Lady Cats added five more goals before halftime. Zack netted her second of the game in the 26th minute, before Diana Harrison (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Lanie Thompson (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Cassie Nath (Ligonier, Pa.) and Gena Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) scored to give the Lady Cats an 8-0 halftime advantage.
It was more of the same for Pitt-Johnstown in the second half. Thompson, Harrison and Pentz all recorded their second goals of the match to set the final at 11-0.
Thompson finished with two goals and an assist, while Elizabeth Webb (Johnstown, Pa.) collected two assists in the lopsided victory.
The Lady Cats, who had 67 shots and 33 shots on-goal, held the Tigers to just one shot on the day.
Victoria Der Vanik (Bridgeville, Pa.) earned the win and improved to 2-1-0 after playing the fist 30 minutes. Aubrey Mauger (North Huntingdon, Pa.) finished the match and faced one shot and made one save for Pitt-Johnstown. Salem International goalkeeper Jessica Zollweg made 22 saves but surrendered all 11 goals.
The Lady Cats travel to West Virginia Wesleyan College for a WVIAC match on Wednesday, before returning home to host a non-conference match against Penn State-DuBois on Saturday at noon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
