Plowman's Overtime Goal Lifts Lady Cats Over Shepherd

10/22/2009

Lindsay Plowman's (Apollo, Pa.) goal eight minutes into overtime lifted the Lady Cat soccer team to a 2-1 non-conference victory at Shepherd (WV) University, Thursday afternoon. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 8-7-0 on the year.
The Lady Cats opened the scoring when Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.) set up Lauren Penn(Plum, Pa.), who found the back of the net behind Shepherd goalkeeper Lauren Vetock in the 29th minute.
Pitt-Johnstown held that lead until the Rams knotted the score on Rachel Dewberry's goal in the 54th minute.
However, eight minutes into overtime, Plowman took Kelsey Richardson's (Scottdale, Pa.) feed and beat Tessa Jones, who replaced Vetock to start the second half, with the game-winner.
Victoria Der Vanik (Bridgeville, Pa.) earned the win in goal for Pitt-Johnstown and improved to 5-2-0 after facing 21 shots and making six saves.
Shepherd slipped to 4-10-2.
The Lady Cats will celebrate Senior Day against Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Johnstown's Point Stadium, before playing their final regular season home match of the 2009 season against Concord (WV) University on Tuesday at noon at the Point Stadium.
