Lady Cats Fall 3-0 to Alderson-Broaddus on Senior Day

10/25/2009

Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College scored three first half goals on its way to handing the Lady Cats soccer team a 3-0 Senior Day loss, Sunday at Johnstown's Point Stadium. Pitt-Johnstown fell to 8-8-0 overall and 4-4-0 in conference play.
Kasie Shoemaker gave the Battlers a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. Shoemaker finished Megan Johnson's free-kick that rebounded ouff of Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Stephanie Paha (Slickville, Pa.). Shoemaker then dribbled through a pair of Lady Cat defenders and found the back of the net in the 32nd minute to increase the lead to 2-0. Alderson-Broaddus then ended the first half scoring and set the final score at 3-0 in the 45th minute when Brooke Logston took Sarah Holmes' give and go and beat Paha.
Paha, who played the first half, took the loss after making eight saves and giving up all three goals. Victoria Der Vanik (Bridgeville, Pa.) played the second half and made two saves and did not allow a goal. Alderson-Broaddus goalkeeper Kate Laird saw seven Pitt-Johnstown shots and made two saves to earn the shutout.
With the win, the Battlers improved to 11-3-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the WVIAC.
Head Coach Jim Heringer and the Lady Cat soccer program recognized this year's seniors: Emily Babik (St. Marys, Pa.), Chrissy Burnsworth (McKeesport, Pa.), Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.), Lindsay Plowman (Apollo, Pa.) and Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.).
The Lady Cats will play their final regular season home match of the 2009 season against Concord (WV) University on Tuesday at noon at the Point Stadium, before finishing the regular season at Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Saturday.
