Lady Cat Soccer Season Ends With Double OT Loss at Wheeling Jesuit

10/31/2009

A win or a tie at Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Saturday would earn the Lady Cat soccer team a spot in the 2009 WVIAC Tournament. Unfortunately, Amy Stiltner's goal six minutes into the second overtime led the Cardinals to a 2-1 WVIAC victory and ended the Lady Cat's season with an 8-10-0 overall record and a 4-6-0 record in the WVIAC. The loss left Pitt-Johnstown one point shy of qualifying for the WVIAC Tournament.
Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) gave the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead with a goal on a direct kick 11 minutes into the match
Wheeling Jesuit battled back to tie the score in the 61st minute on Kara Houston's header off of a rebound from Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Victoria Der Vanik (Bridgeville, Pa.).
The score remained the same through the end of regulation and one 10-minute overtime. However, Stiltner's blast from the top corner of the box in the 106th minute got by Der Vanik and gave Wheeling Jesuit the victory.
Der Vanik made 11 saves for Pitt-Johnstown, while Jessica Park made four saves for the Cardinals, who improved 10-9-0, 7-3-0 WVIAC.
