Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 7-0 Win Over Chatham

Freshman forward Alicia Zack (Irwin, Pa.) scored a hat trick and senior forward Kellie Stevens (Davidsville, Pa.) added a goal and an assist to lead the Pitt Johnstown women's soccer team to a 7-0 Senior Day shutout over visiting Chatham College, Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Head Coach Crystal Dye's team improved to 11-3-1 on the year.
Pitt Johnstown built a 3-0 halftime lead, before adding four goals in the second half to earn the shutout. Freshman Krysten Medzie (Clearfield, Pa.) took a through ball from Alyssa McKinney (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and found the back of the net at 4:41 to put Pitt Johnstown up, 1-0. Zack followed with back-to-back goals at 6:02 and 23:44 to make it 3-0 at the half. In the second half, McKinney scored at the 48 minute mark. Ten minutes later, Zack completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal. Pitt Johnstown finished the scoring with Steven's goal at 78:25 and freshman Mary Comerford's (Greensburg, Pa.) goal off of Stevens' assist at 84:30 to set the final at 7-0. Freshman midfielder Chrissy Burnsworth (McKeesport, Pa.) ended the day with a pair of assists.
Pitt Johnstown goal keeper Anna Yarnall (Allentown, Pa.) faced three shots and made three saves to improve to 11-3-1, while Chatham goal keeper Kristin Podboy made 17 saves, but took the loss.
Coach Dye's team had 40 shots, including 24 shots on goal, while holding Chatham to just three shots.
With the loss, Chatham fell to 4-8-2.
Prior to the match, Pitt Johnstown recognized this year's seniors, forward Erin Brady (Donegal, Pa.) and Stevens, the team's second leading scorer with 30 points (14 goals and two assists).
Pitt Johnstown travels to Franciscan (OH) University to wrap up the 2006 season on Friday.
