09/11/2010

Felicia Riccelli's goal in the 87th minute broke a 2-2 tie and propelled Davis & Elkins (WV) College to a 3-2 home victory over the Lady Cat soccer team, Saturday afternoon in the 2010 WVIAC opener. Jackie Becerra (Saddle Brook, NJ) and Brittney Miller (Slippery Rock, Pa.) netted the goals for the Lady Cats, who slipped to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in WVIAC play.
Becerra gave Pitt-Johnstown a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute off of Kelsey Richardson's (Scottdale, Pa.) assist, but the Senators answered to tie the score with six minutes remaining in the half on an unassisted goal by Cate Smith.
The Lady Cats regained the lead 2-1 early in the second half on Miller's penalty kick goal, but Davis & Elkins scored the next two to secure the win. Breanna Eskew scored to knot it 2-2 in the 65th minute, before Riccelli netted the game-winner behind Lady Cat goalkeeper Victoria DerVanik (Bridgeville, Pa.) with three minutes to play.
DerVanik faced 14 Senator shots and make a pair of saves, but suffered the loss and fell to 0-3. Jessica Coleman got the win after seeing 10 Pitt-Johnstown shots and making three saves.
With the victory, Davis & Elkins improved to 2-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.
The Lady Cats begin a four-match home stand against WVIAC rival Ohio Valley (WV) University on Tuesday, before hosting a non-conference match against Lake Erie (OH) College on Thursday. Both matches will kick-off at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
