Women's Soccer Falls, 4-2, to Shepherd

Head Coach Crystal Dye's women's soccer team battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits to tie the score in the 70th minute, but visiting Shepherd (WV) University answered with a pair of goals to score a 4-2 win, Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, Pitt Johnstown suffered its first lost of the season and fell to 3-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the WVIAC.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute, before Pitt Johnstown freshman midfielder Lauren Penn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored off of an assist from Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) in the 40th minute. The scored remained tied until the 69th minute when Shepherd's Jennifer Hoffman headed a corner kick past Pitt Johnstown goalkeeper Stephanie Paha (Slickville, Pa.) to give the Rams a 2-1 lead. Pitt Johnstown answered less than two minutes later on Alicia Zack's (Irwin, Pa.) blast from outside the box to even the score, 2-2. However, the Rams netted breakaway goals in the 71st and 87th minute to seal the victory.
Paha made one save, but suffered the loss for Pitt Johnstown, which outshot the Rams 15-9 for the match. With the loss, Paha is now 3-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the WVIAC. Shepherd goalkeeper Amy Bell faced 15 shots and made 10 saves to earn the win.
With the victory, Shepherd improved to 3-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the WVIAC.
Pitt Johnstown travels to the University of Findlay (OH) Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The team will play its next home match against Carlow University on Saturday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m.
