Second Half Goal Sinks Lady Cat Soccer

10/12/2010

Kristin Knotts' goal in the 73rd minute broke a scoreless match and lifted Shepherd (WV) University to a 1-0 non-conference victory over the Lady Cat soccer team, Tuesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. The Lady Cats fell to 1-9-0 on the year.
After 72 minutes of scoreless soccer, Knotts took Casey Coles' pass and blasted it off the hands of Lady Cat goalkeeper Victoria Der Vanik (Bridgeville, Pa.) and into the net to give the Rams the 1-0 win.
Der Vanik saw just three Shepherd shots and didn't make a save, but surrendered the game-winning goal. Shepherd goalkeeper Tessa Jones faced 16 Pitt-Johnstown shots and made four saves to earn the shutout.
With the victory, the Rams improved to 3-8-0.
The Lady Cats travel to Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College for a WVIAC match on Saturday, before hosting a non-conference match against Lock Haven University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Richland High School.
