Link and Ryan Win Titles at Wilkes Open; Five Others Place in Top-Four

Ryan Link (Cresson, Pa.) won the championship at 133 lbs., and Keith Ryan (Shirleysburg, Pa.) claimed the title at 157 lbs. to lead a group of six Mountain Cat wrestlers who earned top-four places at Tuesday's 2010 Wilkes Open.
Link posted a 4-0 record, including a 3-2 decision over Franklin and Marshall's Jacob Bucha in the title bout at 133 lbs., while Ryan, who was also 4-0, pinned Wilkes University's Shane Everett at 1:51 to win the championship at 157 lbs.
Red-shirt freshman David Cawley (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was the runner-up at 141 lbs. Cawley was 4-0 before suffering a 12-2 loss to American University's Matthew Mariacher in the title match.
A.J. Brentzel (Irwin, Pa.) and Chris Dempsey (Sewickley, Pa.) both placed third. Brentzel, whose only loss came in overtime in the semifinals, defeated New York University's Sabino Galassi, 2-1, in the thrid-place match at 184 lbs. Dempsey battled back to win six straight after losing his opening match, including a 7-3 victory over Christopher Smith (Wilkes) to place third.
Zach Lundgren (DuBois, Pa.) placed fourth at 165 lbs. with a 4-2 record to round out the Mountain Cats who placed.
In addition, Nathan Link (Cresson, Pa.) finished with a 5-2 record, but did not place.
Pitt-Johnstown will open the spring semester at home against Lake Erie (OH) College on Friday, January 7 at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
