Volleyball Earns WVIAC Road Win at D&E

Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) collected 15 kills, and Kelsey Shanabrook (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) added 10 kills lead the Lady Cat volleyball team to a 25-21, 16-25, 25-19, 25-23 WVIAC victory at Davis & Elkins (WV) College on Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 4-9 overall and a 2-1 in the WVIAC.
In addition, Tayler Vebares (Red Lion, Pa.) tallied eight kills and four block solos. Ashley Dirado (Greensburg, Pa.) and Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.) combined for three block solos and seven block assists.
Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) finished with 21 set assists, 11 digs, and a pair of service aces, and Nikki Oakes (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in 18 assists, nine digs and two aces.
Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.) ended with a team-high 24 digs, while Danielle Fleeger (Clarion, Pa.) had nine digs in the win.
With the loss, the Davis & Elkins fell to 8-10 overall and 2-2 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats finish a stretch of five straight WVIAC road matches at Fairmont State (WV) on Wednesday, at Concord (WV) on Friday, and at Bluefield State (WV) on Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown will return home to host a non-conference match against Penn State-Altoona on October 6 at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
