Volleyball Scores 3-1 Home Win Over Davis & Elkins

Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Miller (Stoystown, Pa.) had nine kills and four block assists to lead the Pitt Johnstown women's volleyball team to a three-games-to-one WVIAC conference win over visiting Davis & Elkins (WV) College, Friday night in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats, winners of three straight matches, improved to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the WVIAC.
Pitt Johnstown claimed game one, 30-23, but the Senators evened the match with a 30-24 win in game two. However, Head Coach Linda Renzi's Lady Cats responded with 30-27 and 30-20 wins in the next two games to seal the victory.
Pitt Johnstown sophomore outside hitter Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) had nine kills, while junior middle hitters Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) and Casey Jo Ritenour (Latrobe, Pa.) each had eight kills. Ritenour also added six block assists. Coach Renzi also got a team-high 26 assists from Merissa Larrew (Irwin, Pa.), four service aces from Megan Lasut (Central City, Pa.) and seven digs from Kim Shubra (Penn run, Pa.) in the win.
With the loss, Davis & Elkins dropped to 4-12 overall and 3-4 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats will host a non-conference match against Penn State-Altoona on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
