Volleyball Defeats Davis & Elkins In First Round of WVIAC Tournament

It took five games, but Head Coach Linda Renzi's Lady Cat volleyball team advanced to the WVIAC Quarterfinals with a three-games-to-two victory over Davis & Elkins (WV) College in Thursday's First Round of 2007 WVIAC Tournament at the Catholic Sports Complex in Charleston, WV. Pitt Johnstown, the #8-seed, will take on top-seeded Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University in the Quarterfinals on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
The Lady Cats, who improved to 15-14 on the season, opened the match with a 30-24 win, before the Senators earned a 30-19 in game two. Pitt Johnstown responded with another 30-23 win in game three, but Davis & Elkins forced a deciding game five with a 30-28 win in the fourth game. However, the Lady Cats claimed the match and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 15-12 in game five.
Junior middle hitter Casey Jo Ritenour (Latrobe, Pa.) led the Lady Cats with 13 kills, two block solos and four block assists, while sophomore Megan Lasut (Central City, Pa.) added 10 kills, three block solos and a pair of block assists. Freshman Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) collected eight kills and Nicole Houser (Penn Run, Pa.) had six kills. Coach Renzi also got a team-high 45 assists from Taylor King (York, Pa.).

With the loss, Davis & Elkins' season ended with an 8-21 record.
