Pitt-Johnstown Lady Cat senior forward Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) was named First-Team All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Women's Basketball by the league's coaches, while senior guard Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) was selected to the Second-Team when this year's all-conference accolades were released on Sunday... (Full WVIAC Release)
University of Charleston (WV) senior guard Lindsey Kentner is the WVIAC's Player of the Year. West Virginia State University's Chelsey Davis garnered Freshman of the Year honors, while Seton Hill University's Ferne Labati has earned Coach of the Year accolades.
Dalton, a three-time WVIAC Player of the Week honoree in 2010-11, leads the Lady Cats in scoring (19.4 ppg.), rebounding (9.0 rpg.) and three-point field goals-made (48). Nationally, she ranks 15th in scoring and 65th in rebounding. Dalton, who was a Second-Team All-WVIAC choice in 2009-10 and a member of the 2009 All-WVIAC Tournament Team, has also been nominated for Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Daktronics, and Division II Bulletin All-America honors.
Aden, a Second-Team All-WVIAC selection, stepped into Head Coach Sasha Palmer's starting lineup as a true freshman and was a first-team all-conference selection a year ago. Aden is Pitt-Johnstown's second leading scorer (17.7 ppg.) and rebounder (5.6 rpg.). She ranks 37th in the nation in scoring and 38th in field goal percentage. Aden leads the Lady Cats in field goal percentage (51.9%) and free-throw percentage (80.1%). In addition, Aden, who was tabbed WVIAC Player of the Week twice this season, was named Second-Team All-Conference as a sophomore and was chosen for the All-Freshmen Team in 2007-08. Like Dalton, she has also been nominated for WBCA, Daktronics, and Division II Bulletin All-America honors.
Pitt Johnstown finished the 2007-08 regular season with a 15-10 overall record and secured the #6-seed in the WVIAC with a 13-9 record. The Lady Cats will take on #11-seeded Ohio Valley (WV) University in Monday's First Round of the WVIAC Tournament at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
Kentner, who was recently a first-team academic All-America selection, finished tied for second in the conference with 19.5 points per game. Kentner netted 52.9 percent of her shots on the season, ranking fifth in the league in field goal percentage. Kentner topped the league in free throw percentage (87.5 percent) and steals per game (2.86). She ranked third in the league in three-point field goal percentage (43.6 percent) and assist/turnover ratio (1.81) and fourth in three-point field goals made (2.82/game).
West Virginia State's Davis was the top freshman scorer in the league and finished 15th with 14.4 points per game. Her 1.79 blocks per game rank sixth in the league. Davis' 8.3 rebounds per night were good enough for eighth in the WVIAC.
Seton Hill coach Labati guided the Griffins to a fourth-place regular-season finish after being selected eighth in the WVIAC preseason poll. In her sixth season, the Griffins ended the regular season with a 20-6 mark, including a 16-6 record in WVIAC play. For her career, Labati has posted a 524-367 coaching record. This season, she had two players – Jordan Burkes and Paige Alviani – garner WVIAC accolades.
