Senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) became the 23rd Lady Cat basketball player to earn All-American recognition when Women's Division II Bulletin recently named her an Honorable Mention All-American.
Zapf, Pitt Johnstown's leading scorer (17.9 ppg.) and rebounder (8.6 rpg.) in 2006-07, helped lead the Lady Cats to a 21-8 overall record and the program's 16th NCAA Tournament berth that included a 71-58 victory over #2-seeded Pfeiffer (NC) University in the First Round.
Zapf, a 2006-07 Second Team Daktronics All-East Region selection and a Second Team All-WVIAC choice, ended her career ranked fourth on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 858 rebounds and 13th on the All-Time Scoring List with 1,325 points.
Nationally, Zapf finished eighth in the country in Field Goal Percentage (57.3%), 36th in Points Per Game (17.9 ppg.) and 64th in Rebounds Per Game (8.6 rpg.).
Ten times during the 2006-07 season Zapf led Pitt Johnstown in scoring, including pouring in 27 points on two occasions. Zapf paced the team in rebounding in 20 of the 29 games and recorded 12 double-doubles of points and rebounds
Zapf also excelled in the classroom. Zapf earned ESPN the Magazine Second Team Academic All-America Women's Basketball honors this year with a 3.85 overall G.P.A. in Elementary Education. Zapf, a Third Team Academic All-District Selection in 2005-06, became just the third Lady Cat to be selected First or Second Academic All-America. She joins Melissa Patterson, a First Team Academic All-American in 2005 and Lindsay Baker, a Second Team choice in 2002.
