Krischer, Zapf Named Second Team WVIAC Women's Basketball

Lady Cat senior basketball players Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) and Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) were named Second Team All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference when this year's teams were released on Sunday. Krischer and Zapf beame the first Lady Cat basketball players to earn All-WVIAC honors.
Krischer and Zapf have led the Lady Cats to an 18-7 record and a shot at the program's 16th NCAA Tournament appearance in March.
Krischer, nominated for 2006-07 Kodak, Daktronics and Women's Division II Bulletin All-America honors, leads the Lady Cats in scoring (18.3 ppg.), assists (110), steals (68) and three-point field goals made (50). Nationally, she ranks 20th in Points Per Game, 32nd in Steals Per Game (3.0 spg.), 41st in Assists Per Game (4.8 apg.), 59th in Three-Point Field Goals Per Game (2.2) and 67th in Three-Point Field Goal Percentage (36.0). After becoming the 30th Lady Cat to reach the 1,000-point milestone on 01/24/07 against West Liberty state (WV), Krischer has climbed into 21st place on the scoring list. She enters the game with 1,143 career points. Krischer, who has played in all but one game over the last four years, earned Most Valuable Player honors at the 2006 Pitt-Johnstown-Cummings Trophies & Engraving Mountain Cat Tournament in December and All-Tournament Team honors at the 2006 Kutztown Golden Bear Classic in November. Krischer was tabbed the WVIAC Co-Player of the Week on January 2. Thirteen times this year she has led or tied for the team lead in scoring. She has led or tied for the team lead in assists 19 times and has scored in double figures 20 times.
Zapf, a preseason Women's Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American. She has also been named a 2006-07 Second Team All-WVIAC performer. Through 25 games, she is Pitt-Johnstown's leading rebounder (8.6 rpg.) and second leading scorer (17.6 ppg.). Zapf's 57.5% field goal percentage also leads the Lady Cats and ranks sixth in NCAA Division II. In addition, she ranks 35th in the country in scoring and 50th in rebounding. Recently, she was nominated for Kodak, Daktronics and Women's Division II Bulletin All-America honors. In the classroom, Zapf improved on last season's ESPN The Magazine Third Team All-District selection by being named First Team All-District this season and earning a spot on the national ballot to become an Academic All-American. Zapf, named the WVIAC Co-Player of the Week on January 10, became the 29th Lady Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau when she scored 18 points in a win over Concord (WV) University on Jan. 13, 2007. Zapf ranks 13th on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,247 and sixth on the rebounding list with 824 career rebounds. Six times this season she led Pitt Johnstown in scoring and 17 times she led or tied for the team lead in rebounding. She has also recorded 10 double-doubles this season.
Glenville State's Rachel Redick was named the WVIACm Player of the Year, and teammate Melanie Oliver was tabbed the Freshman of the year. Glenville's Steve Harold collected his third WVIAC Coach of the Year honor.
