Lady Cat Basketball Player Jessica Zapf Named Preseason Women's Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American

Lady Cat senior basketball player Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has been named a Preseason Women's Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American in the October/November 2006 issue of the publication. Women's Division II Bulletin is the monthly newsletter of Division II women's basketball.
Zapf, a 5'11" forward/center from North Hills High School, led the Lady Cats in rebounding at 8.7 rebounds per game and was the team's second leading scorer at 14.4 points per game in 2005-06. Zapf's 82.1% shooting from the free-throw line and 54.2% (123-227) from the field were also second on the team. In addition, she finished fourth on the team in steals (40) and fifth in assists (36).
Nationally, Zapf, a 2006-07 team captain, wrapped up her junior season ranked 60th in NCAA Division II in Free-Throw Percentage at 82.1% (142-173) and 64th in rebounding at 8.7 rebounds per game.
Entering the 2006-07 season, Zapf's 610 career rebounds rank 15th on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List. She will also enter her senior season with 806 career points, just 194 points away from becoming Pitt Johnstown's 29th 1,000-point scorer.
Seven times during the 2005-06 season Zapf led the Lady Cats in scoring, while she led or tied for the team lead in rebounding 18 times. She collected 10 double-doubles in scoring and rebounding and scored in double-figures in 24 of the 27 Pitt Johnstown games. Four times in 2005-06 Zapf eclipsed the 20-point mark in a game and 10 times she scored 15 or more points.
Through her first three seasons as a Lady Cat, Zapf is averaging 10.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
Along with her success on the court, Zapf also excels in the classroom. Zapf was named Third Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II with a 3.85 overall G.P.A. in Elementary Education following the 2005-06 season.
